Our Family Hunting Journey with four kids | Southern Utah

"Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter."

-Izaak Walton

We are here in hopes that sharing our journey of hunting with four wild kids can help you as well!

We want to document our moments in the mountains as we begin hunting as a family! We want to teach our kids how to be good outdoorsmen and women so their kids will have the same opportunities as them. Let me tell you a little secret... I've never really hunted a lot so this is also new to me!

After my first real bear chase with the guys and let me tell you, 25 miles on the back of a mule that I am not accustomed to riding in the mountains was an adventure in itself!

Hunting was once something that I was positive would tear our relationship apart. I was 19 and pregnant when we got married + my hubby wanted to be out of the house hunting every. single. weekend.... gosh, looking back on it now, I hope that didn't have something to do with me! ha

Let's just say we had a rocky start and we had to dig in and learn how to compromise to keep each other happy. It may have taken about eight years, but guess what?! We did it! We kept up the fight, figured out what worked best for both of us + hunting has now become something that has brought us together. Sheesh, how the tables have turned! Well, I'm not here to give marriage advice... that's a blog post for another day + I'm no expert!

Let's fast forward several years! My husband started taking Jack hunting when he was three years old + that boy's life changed forever! Now he eats, sleeps, and breathes all things hunting!

He morphs into some crazy calm + silent kid when he's on the hillside searching for Coyotes + I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself. "I told you so," was the first sentence out of my husband's mouth when he saw the look of bewilderment on my face as I watched the boy scan the field for movement! It is certainly his happy place!
After Jack took interest, the older girls started to as well. They went with Dustin a few times and they too fell in love!

Now Khloe gets plopped in her backpack and dragged along for the ride! This last year was her first time at bear camp and she absolutely loved it! Post on that coming soon!

She had the opportunity to see her first bear in a tree and asked us a million times if we could go back and visit it long after we returned home!
Once we realized how much the kids loved it and I had a change of heart... or mind, we decided that we wanted to document our journey. There is so much that I (Amanda) still don't know about hunting and quite frankly, you will be watching us girls learn to hunt!

We are grateful that you are tagging along with us!
